We focus our work in three key areas, because nurturing the potential of kids, helping people live healthier, and supporting our neighbors are fundamental to strengthening communities.
YMCA staff member Andrew Cuffel recently shared a personal story with us and we’d like to share it with you. It’s about a 10 year old boy and one of the best summers of his young life. Out of respect, we will call this young YMCA participant, Michael.
Before Andrew became a YMCA Director at the Mission Valley Y, he spent 7 years as a YMCA Youth Leader and Site Supervisor at a YMCA Afterschool program at Toler Elementary. As an 18 year old, he had no idea what the mission of the Y was, much less how he could impact it as an employee. But one summer, Andrew’s life changed forever – all because of one small boy and a summer of non-stop smiles.
